Possessed by Capital
PS Alum Anh Vo (MA '19) will present a new guerrilla performance, Possessed by Capital, on Saturday, June 14, 9:30pm in Downtown Brooklyn's space. The show will begin at the 300 Ashland Plaza and end in front of the Apple Store on Flatbush Avenue.
If Marx has to "take flight into the misty realm of religion" to flesh out his theory of commodity fetishism, Vo wants to take seriously this religiosity of commodity consumption and develop Possessed by Capital as a worship dance for the contemporary temple of Apple Store. Produced by Sunmi Yong (MA '19), the work features dancers Kristel Baldoz, Justin Cabrillos, and Vo, with live music accompaniment by Jessica Pavone and gabby fluke-mogul.
Possessed by Capital is made possible, in part, by the Franklin Furnace FUND 2024-25, supported by Jerome Foundation and the members and friends of Franklin Furnace Archive. This work was supported by an Early Creative Residency at the Chocolate Factory Theater.
