Lukas Woodyard (Performance Studies MA '20) is producing a new cabaret with their collective, Out of Order.
Set against the United States’ 250th anniversary, America 250 explores the American Dream through Emi Grate’s (Burma-born, Brooklyn-based drag artist, activist, advocate and community builder) 15-year journey as a queer migrant artist. With live vocals, a 4-piece band, and pointed theatricality, the show explores myths, promises, and contradictions that shape both a nation and the people who come to it, and features beloved classics from American folk, jazz, gospel, musical theatre, and contemporary pop—illustrating how far Emi Grate herself has come, while simultaneously interrogating how far America has to go.
Presented by Out of Order Collective, featuring Paris L’Hommie, with live accompaniment by musical director Altvrviolet and ensemble. Hosted by Caveat.
Assigned seating AND streaming online. The venue is 21+. The show is 15+ for those watching at home. No drink minimum; no outside food or drinks.
