Gwen Rakotovao

Gwen Rakotovao is a choreographer, dancer, and researcher whose work integrates performance, pedagogy, and cultural inquiry. She is currently pursuing a PhD at Stockholm University of the Arts, exploring cultural memory and diaspora, with a focus on the Malagasy funeral ritual Famadihana.
Founder of the Gwen Rakotovao Company, she creates works that have been presented internationally, marked by the interplay of movement, ritual, and poetic resistance. Gwen has performed with leading artists and has led diverse educational and community programs around the world. She’s been awarded several residencies and prizes, including the 2024 Trophée de l’Originalité by Chaillot - Théâtre national de la Danse.
