Diego Cristian Saldana

Diego Cristian Saldaña (1990) is a musician and playwright from Mexico City. He studied Classical Guitar at UNAM, creative writing at SOGEM, and Dramatic Literature and Theater at UNAM. His current research is about alternative writing in contemporary music and in contemporary theater; the relevance or irrelevance of a “score”; and the artistic implications of such an outdated technique (putting signs into a piece of paper to design certain element of a live act).

In 2010 he created the literary web project soundtrack invisible, a selection of poems and short stories, including visual art by Yollotl Alvarado and setting to music by Diego Cristian Saldaña. The project was performed as a live concert at MUAC (Contemporary Art Museum) in 2011.

Although it is all in Spanish you can click the stereo and mix up the different instruments of the “Fugue”.

He is the bass player and composer of the Mexican band #SíNenaNo. As an electric bass player, he has recorded 5 albums with different jazz, funk and rock bands that you can hear in his personal YouTube Channel.

Founder, musician and playwright of Los Fusilados, with whom he has done 11 urban plastic, political and musical interventions, and two major plays: El Gato Macho, created and performed in Mexico City’s clandestine bars near the National University; and Ghost Love, created and performed in a Strip Club in Mexico City.

In his last play “7 billion inhabitants and I’m still cold”, created in collaboration with NADDA collective, he “wrote” the playwriting and the music as the same “score”. The play was selected for Playwriting Week Nuevo León 2015, the 36th National Theater Showing Aguascalientes 2015, and the Scenic Arts Encounter FONCA 2015.
