Sierra Ortega
M.A. '16
Sierra Ortega is an interdisciplinary performance artist, visual artist, and poet based in New York City. Utilizing their background in performance practice, speculative philosophy, and queer and feminist politics, they have come to develop an artist/scholar practice that is deeply personal, constantly chaotic, and furiously DIY. Their work emerges from their material and affective life as a queer, mentally ill, individual and often functions as a kind of exploratory self-care. Conceptually, the work can be understood as research into alternative modes of habituation as it attempts to push the limits of human affective capacity and embodiment in a search for meta-utopian, post-capitalist futures.
