Seamus Slattery

Seamus is a rapidly changing creative, currently pursuing a dual degree in Performance Studies and Film & Television. With roots in theater, Seamus's passions are now focused on film and visual arts, and how they relate to queer theory and escapism. He has experience on set as a production designer, and in post-production as an editor. In addition to working on set, Seamus also can typically be found writing critiques on new movies.

Coming from suburban Philadelphia, Seamus became infatuated with the intersection between studies of everyday life and pop culture, as well as how the two translate onto more local scales. As a subsection of this, Seamus is also very interested in the how media and pop culture accelerate and define fashion in everyday life. These are all very influential in his practices, and manifest themselves through his writing, design, and film work. He's usually caught running around NYC making short films with his friends, or writing in any open space he can find.

Why PS @ NYU?

I chose Performance Studies because I wanted to explore. Performance Studies is quite often described as the "intersection" or the "in-between" of a lot of things, and that expansiveness attracted me. Once I was introduced to the program, I really began to feel a home within it. This major combines analysis, philosophy, and theory with performance and visual arts, which is a precisely how I think and the way that my mind operates. While I'm pursuing my practices outside of the major, Performance Studies gives me an incredibly strong theoretical background, so I can approach my work from a much more knowing standpoint.
