Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program alum and adjunct faculty member Mindi Dickstein (Cycle 5) and alum Carmel Dean (Cycle 12) were one of three creative teams to be commissioned by New Words Provincetown.

New Works Provincetown, a developmental theatre lab founded by Producer Mark Cortale to create and develop new theatrical works will commission Dickstein and Dean to write a new musical titled MAIDEN VOYAGE, a musical inspired by the true story of the 1989-1990 Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race, in which the first ever all-female sailing team found the grit and determination needed to conquer the seas - and made history.

Both creative teams were scheduled for week-long writing retreats in Provincetown between late November and early December of 2020. The two new commissions are a manifestation of New Works Provincetown's focus on theatrical works created by voices of diversified race, ethnicity and gender.
