Program alums feature new musicals in EAT Spark Theater Festival.

Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program alums John Carroll, Anna Marcus-Hecht, Maria Elizabeth White, and Ella Sodam Yoon (all cycle 31) and Deniz Demirkurt (cycle 29) will present their new shows at the EAT Spark Theater Festival this March 2023. All shows will be presented at the TADA! Theater.

MACHA by Anna Marcus-Hecht & Maria Elizabeth White (both Cycle 31) tells the story about the titular character who is the Irish goddess of female revenge and must come to the aid of any woman who calls her. When she is called by Tiff, a woman who doesn’t seek revenge against her abusive husband, she begins to re-evaluate her propensity for violence. The show will be presented on March 15th, 2023 @ 7 PM. TROUBLESHOOTING by John Carroll (Cycle 31) depicts a call between a lonely young adult and an outgoing social worker who, despite having similar issues, tries to help. This opera shows the struggle neurodivergent people face when pursuing connection in unaccommodating social settings. The material is informed by the author’s own experience with autism spectrum disorder. The opera will be presented on March 17th, 2023 @ 9 PM. For more information and tickets CLICK HERE.

ECHO by Deniz Demirkurt (Cycle 29) and Ella Sodam Yoon (Cycle 31) is the story taken from the famous Greek myth and tells the story of  a nymph who was cursed by Hera to only be able to repeat the last words someone says to her. The musical explores what happens to Echo after she’s been cursed and follows her as she embarks on a journey to find her voice again. The show will be presented on March 21st, 2023 @ 7 PM.
