Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program alum Alex Syiek (Cycle 26) presented an industry reading of his new musical SHOW ON THE ROOF at Open Jar Studios in NYC on September 11, 2023.
The new work co-written with collaborator Tom Ford explores the Lavender Scare, centering on a defunct drive-in restaurant in Boise, Idaho, and the societal and political pressures that shut it down. The work played a world premiere run at Boise Contemporary Theatre in 2022.
The reading starred Syiek alongside famed actors as Ford, Terrence Mann, Colton Ryan, and others.
Music supervision, orchestrations, and arrangements were provided by Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program alum Jacob Fjeldheim (also Cycle 26).
