Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program alum Laura Barati (cycle 25) and Samuel Norman (cycle 30) presented readings of their one-act operas as part of The Living Libretto with American Lyric Theater at Open Jar Studios on December 14, 2025.
FOURTH WAVE BEAUTY QUEENS, with a libretto by Laura Barati, is a dark comedy examining a mother and daughter relationship tested by their ultimate temptations.
THE SHADOW, with a libretto by Samuel Norman, is based on a dark tale by Hans Christian Andersen and follows a man who accidentally severs himself from his shadow and is unable to recapture it.
