GMTWP Alums Present New Musical in Live Stream Event

Monday, Apr 27, 2020

Theatre C will present a live stream concert of the musical CUBAMOR by GMTWP alums Charles Vincent Burwell and James D. Sasser (both Cycle 20).

The show is a musical adaptation inspired by the Sundance Award-winning film of the same name by Joshua Bee Alafia.

The live-streamed concert, presented on Monday, May 4th, will feature the notable vocal talents of the show's former cast members, including Syney James Harcourt (Hamilton), Nik Walker (It Ain't Too Proud), and Virginia Cavaliere (In The Heights US Tour).

The show takes A Midsummer Night's Dream and sets it against the backdrop of traditional Afro-Cuban culture and hip hop, as a contemporary love story about two Americans who fall in love with two Cubans, and then have to navigate the cultural and historical divide of both worlds.

CUBAMOR has a long, vibrant history having had a reading at Ars Nova, a presentation at the Festival of New Musicals (presented by the National Alliance of Musical Theatre), and a production at the Village Theatre in Issaquah, WA.

The concert is one of many responses by theatres to continue producing live theatre despite the current global pandemic of the Covid-19 virus.
