On Your Radar: Roxy Moskowitz

On Your Radar is a Grad Film News segment that features a current student. We asked Roxy Moskowitz a few questions and this is what she said.

What is currently inspiring you as a filmmaker?

Ballet. I am transitioning from combat sports (Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu), and I'm feeling embodied and happy for the first time in a very long time. Trying to control my body with grace and beauty is very different than training my body as a tool to fight or inflict pain. Switching to ballet indicates where my head and heart are right now. I want to interact with the world with grace.

WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT STATE OF MIND?

Buzzing, in a good way. I’ve been going through a low-stakes digital detox for the last few months. I deleted Spotify and installed some lockdown apps on my phone. In the space that’s opened up from being offline and letting my mind wander, I have been flooded with ideas. I feel that inspiration is falling onto me like rain, and also simultaneously that I am expelling it every time I breathe and talk. It is a good place to be, finally, after feeling so distracted and detached for so long. It also means that I am writing. Which is what I think we all pray for.

What has been your most rewarding experience at NYU Tisch Grad Film?

I can't point to just one since there are so many. But what Grad Film has given me has just been those moments of conversation with someone, where very suddenly you have both figured out something extremely important and crucial on whatever you're working on. And those moments happen almost daily. And they are random and serendipitous, but after you have them, you can't imagine it happening any other way.
