Filmmaker Jonathan Glazer joined NYU Tisch Grad Film and the NYU Production Lab for a conversation with students spanning his work in music videos and feature films, and his creative partnership with composer Mica Levi. Moderated by Andrew Okpeaha MacLean, Chair of Grad Film, the workshop offered an opportunity to discuss Glazer’s filmmaking ahead of the world premiere of Joy of Joys at the New York Film Festival.
The conversation explored films including Birth, Under the Skin, and The Zone of Interest, as well as Glazer and Levi’s collaboration on Joy of Joys. The documentary follows the recording of HELP(2), a charity album from War Child Records supporting children in conflict zones. Glazer supplied cameras to children in London to capture the recording sessions at Abbey Road Studios, with their footage appearing alongside material filmed by children in Gaza, Sudan, Ukraine, and Yemen.
Grad Film also welcomed Levi for a companion workshop, co-presented with Steinhardt Screen Scoring and the NYU Production Lab. Levi’s conversation explored their work in performance, composition, and screen scoring, giving students a complementary perspective on the artists’ collaboration.
