Tinbete Daniel

Tinbete Daniel

Graduate Film has selected MFA Candidate Tinbete Daniel as this year's recipient for the Robert Oberman, Gregory Pickert, and Media Services Producing Award. The honor, which is selected by producing faculty, is given to a Graduate Film candidate in the third year of the program for outstanding producing work over their course of studies.

Tinbete Daniel is a Tigrayan American filmmaker from the Bay Area, California. Since attending NYU he has produced over ten short films including four films that he has written and directed. Films that are currently in post production are False Start by Kansas Ballesteros, I’ll Be Your Eyes by Alex Sassine, If I Make it to the Morning by Andre Shen, and Anima by Robin Zeijlon among others.

“I have grown as an artist and person in the past three years because my key creative partner is a role model of hard work and creativity. Tinbete Daniel will always be the first person I tell my ideas to, and the first person I thank once the project is done, because without him, none of them would have happened.” - Robin Z.

Before joining NYU, Tinbete worked as a freelance filmmaker out in California splitting his time between the bay area and Los Angeles and as an associate producer for an independent production company. He received a BA from the University of Santa Barbara, California where he studied Film and Media studies and Economics.

“When working with Tinbete Daniel, the first thing that struck me was that there is no ‘off switch.’ Tinbete is a producer around the clock. He is constantly problem solving, scouting, working directors through script changes and always ready to lend his ear for a rant. He is thorough in his paperwork, meticulous in his planning and malleable when a curve ball comes at him during production, as it almost always does.” - Kansas B.
