“ON YOUR RADAR” IS A WEEKLY GRAD FILM NEWS SEGMENT THAT FEATURES A STUDENT PICKED AT RANDOM.

LANA IS CURRENTLY A 3RD YEAR STUDENT AT GRAD FILM. WE ASKED HER A FEW QUESTIONS, AND HERE’S WHAT SHE HAD TO SAY:

1. Where do you consider home and what is it like there?

Home is where my beloved Eugene is. He is my best friend, and my partner.  It is always warm and cozy near him. Even if we are in the middle of nowhere.

2. What is currently inspiring you as a filmmaker?

Death.

Something that is deceasing, disappearing. The human attitude towards death. The human relationship towards deceased people. How the deceased influence us. Our lives are getting so up to speed, that we are forgetting how fragile we and the people around us are. What will be after, why, and how… an inevitable mystery that will overtake all and unite all people. This is what I’m exploring in my films and scripts.

Love and Friendship in all their manifestations always spark my imagination.

How would a person feel if they find the inability to love? What can one do for a friend, lover or a child? What would make someone betray? What would be the strangest friendship? What would be the most unusual way to fall in love? I could just go on forever thinking about all of this. I will always be curious to explore and observe relationships between people, trying to figure out what is it that makes someone more special to someone than others. What is it that we call love?

Death and Love are the source of my inspiration.

3. What has been your most rewarding experience at NYU Tisch Grad Film so far?

The opportunity to be vulnerable and feel secure is the most unusual and rewarding experience I have had in my life. I found love and support from the faculty and classmates when I was sharing my biggest fears and dreams. I was trusted to receive their ideas at inception and observe their creative search. I'll carry with care and love through my life the friendships and the relationships I’ve built at NYU.
