Film Independent announced its nominations for the 2022 Spirit Awards, including nominations for alumnus Jonas Carpignano, Professor Alexandre Rockwell & alum Haley Anderson

Carpignano’s A Chiara is nominated in three categories: Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Feature. A Chiara is Carpignano’s third film in his Calabrian Trilogy. It has been critically acclaimed all throughout its festival run, and received The Europa Cinemas Cannes Label for Best European Film.

Rockwell’s Sweet Thing, with alum Lasse Ulvedal Tolboll as cinematographer, is nominated in two categories, most notably receiving a nomination for the John Cassavetes Award. The Independent Spirit John Cassavetes Award is presented to the creative team of a film budgeted at less than $500,000. (Grad Film alumnus Kihrill Mikhanovsky won back in 2019 for Give Me Liberty.) The nomination includes the film’s producer and alum Haley Anderson. Sweet Thing’s lead is also nominated for Best Supporting Male.
