Yellow Rose, a film co-written by Grad Film alumna and adjunct professor Annie Howell, was just picked up by Sony Pictures Worldwide. This news follows the film’s massive critical success, having won grand jury prizes at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, the Asian American International Film Festival and Urbanworld Film Festival.

The film follows an undocumented Filipina teen who dreams of leaving her small Texas town to pursue a life as a country music performer. Howell co-wrote it with the film’s director Diane Paragas, a script The Hollywood Reporter calls a “judicious balance of emotion and insight.”

Yellow Rose stars Tony Award winner Lea Salonga and Tony nominee Eva Noblezada, and will screen at Austin Film Festival on October 28th.
