“ON YOUR RADAR” IS A WEEKLY GRAD FILM NEWS SEGMENT THAT FEATURES A STUDENT PICKED AT RANDOM.

ANDREA VACA IS CURRENTLY A 3RD YEAR STUDENT AT GRAD FILM. WE ASKED HER A FEW QUESTIONS, AND HERE’S WHAT SHE HAD TO SAY:

1. Where do you consider home and what is it like there?

Home is where your heart is. When I first came to New York, I missed my city immensely. Then, time passed, and with time I fell in love with the city I live in now. Quito is where I was born, and my family is there, so a piece of me belongs there. New York is where I learned to walk again, literally. They are two very different cities that I love and consider my home.

2. What is currently inspiring you as a filmmaker?

Specificity. At some point, I started to worry too much about every single detail and lost emotion in what I was doing. The process of freeing myself when writing has let me enjoy creating in an honest, simple way.

3. What has been your most rewarding experience at NYU Tisch Grad Film so far?

The growth. Almost three years ago, I was feeling scared and had a lot of doubts. Today, I feel different. I’ve built confidence; I’ve conquered fears; I’m stronger now. That is what Tisch Grad Film means to me.
