Join NYU Tisch Alumni Relations for a conversation with Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ryan Silbert ’20 (MFA, Kanbar Institute, Graduate Film) and Luke Lieberman '01 (BFA, Kanbar Institute, Film & TV) to discuss  storytelling across all media platforms and get insight into the creative process behind Stan Lee's Alliances: A Trick of Light, a multi-platform universe launched last summer with Audible Studio (and a few Easter eggs as to how NYU was at the origins of this exciting new universe) .

    RYAN SILBERT

    Academy Award winning filmmaker Ryan Silbert is a writer, author, producer, and founder of Origin Story Entertainment, a multi-platform entertainment company with a global focus on storytelling. Silbert is also the co-creator of the New York Times bestseller Stan Lee’s "Alliances: A Trick of Light", an original, first-of-its kind audio storytelling event produced by Amazon’s Audible Studios and starring GROWN ISH’s Yara Shahidi. Created by Silbert, Luke Lieberman, and Stan Lee in the late cultural icon’s final collaboration, "A Trick of Light" debuted as an Audible Original and was published as a hardcover by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Audible recently greenlit Silbert’s next project, an expansion of the Stan Lee’s Alliances universe created alongside Luke Lieberman and Lee himself. With work recognized by the Academy Awards®, the Canadian Academy of Film & Television, Sundance, MoMa, IFP, the Toronto International Film Festival, and the Berlinale, Silbert’s expansive repertoire includes such films as the Academy Award® winning GOD OF LOVE and Spike Lee’s THE GIRL IS IN TROUBLE. As the founder of Origin Story Entertainment, Silbert is currently in development on television, film, and immersive narratives projects, including a feature film adaptation of Stephen King’s #1 New York Times Best-Seller The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon with Village Roadshow, Roy Lee’s Vertigo Entertainment (It, Lego Movie) and Sanibel Films. Ryan is an appointed member of the Cornell Communication Advisory Board and Cornell University Council. He graduated with honors from Cornell University with a dual degree in Communications and Business and received his MFA from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Film Program where he also completed a post-doc investigating immersive narratives in games and film. As a writer and producer he is currently represented by Foundry Literary+Media.

  • Luke Lieberman

    LUKE LIEBERMAN

    '01 (BFA, Kanbar Institute, Film & TV)

    Luke Lieberman is a writer, author, producer, attorney and proprietor of intellectual property. Luke graduated film school at NYU and moved to Los Angeles in order to apprentice Stan Lee, who mentored him in the art of storytelling. He left Stan's employ to relaunch the Red Sonja comic book franchise where he serves as licensor and executive editor to this day. In addition to overseeing publication of over 300 issues and 40 graphic novels, Luke has personally written over 60 issues under the title, including last years Red Sonja: Birth of a She-Devil mini-series as well as the upcoming mini-series The Price of Blood. Luke also serves as executive producer on the upcoming Red Sonja film adaptation to be directed by Emmy winner Jill Soloway. After graduating Loyola law school and joining Rosenfeld, Meyer & Susman, LLP to practice intellectual property and entertainment law, Luke collaborated with his friend and mentor Stan, as well as Ryan Silbert and Kat Rosenfeld, to co-author the New York Times best selling Alliances: A Trick of Light which was initially released via Audible and subsequently published in hardcover, ebook and softcover form by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Luke is represented by Foundry Literary+Media. These days Luke does his best writing at the family cabin on Flathead Lake in Montana. Home is where the heart is. He is a brother of four, uncle of 11, father of three, and husband to one Shannon Lieberman, who is the joy of his life
