Peter Nickowitz

Peter Nickowitz is a playwright and screenwriter in New York. His plays include The Alice Complex, Backgammon at the Louvre, Love, Alters, Everything and Songs & Statues, which have been produced or developed at Dixon Place, The Stella Adler Studio, Cherry Lane, the Blank Theatre and The Lark Play Development Center. Peter’s screenplays include Lulu, based on the life of silent film icon Louise Brooks, and The Obit Writer, a contemporary noir drama.  Peter was the 2008-2009 Harold Clurman Playwright-in-Residence at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting and directed the Studio’s Harold Clurman Playwrights Division. A graduate of Brandeis University (B.A.) and New York University (M.A., Ph.D.), he is a member of the WGA, west’s Independent Writers Caucus and the Dramatists Guild of America.

Peter's books include Cinema Vernacular, a collection of poetry (Publication Studio, 2014) and Rhetoric and Sexuality: The Poetry of Hart Crane, Elizabeth Bishop, and James Merrill (Palgrave, 2006).
