Deborah Willis, Ph.D., University Professor and Chair of the Tisch Department of Photography & Imaging, is one of four artists and alumni from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, to mount a “takeover” of the historic National Hotel in Miami’s South Beach during Art Basel Miami.
The exhibit, “I’m Here Waiting for You”, opens to the public on Dec. 6 and will transform the National Hotel inside and out, including a rooftop neon installation, a video projection on the rear facade of the hotel, and a photographic installation throughout the first floor of the hotel.
As an author and curator, Deb's pioneering research—begun at UArts as an undergrad—has focused on cultural histories envisioning the black body, women and gender. Stephen (Espo) Powers, Nadia Hironaka, and Matthew Suib also will exhibit their work.
