Julia Blauvelt

Logline: After a third patient mysteriously dies on her operating table, a brilliant young surgeon reconnects with her estranged and eccentric grandmother, only to discover that she is rightful heir to the family’s business of stregoneria; Italian witch-medicine.

Generations, beliefs, and "best practices" collide in this hour-long hybrid dramedy pilot, which blends magic realism with modern-day angst, and a healthy dose of ancestral secrets.

Bio: Julia Blauvelt grew up in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, and was encouraged early and often to embrace imagination. This often leads her to write stories that live somewhere between fever dream and subconscious rabbit-hole, buoyed by a love of fast-moving dialogue.

A writer enthralled by television and plays, she is consistently trying to amass an arsenal of both. Recently, her play "Roll Play" was a 2021 Finalist for the Neukom Institute Literary Arts Award for Playwriting. Her play "F.I.R.E." was a 2020 Semi-Finalist for New American Voices Festival and will have a production this fall with New Normal Rep. Currently, her coming-of-age OCD memory play "Hoo Ha Jedi Mindf&&ck" was selected for a 2021 Performance Lab Residency with the Orchard Project.

She graduated in 2021 with her MFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU Tisch School of the Arts, where she is the recipient of the Graduate Award for Television Writing. Writing stories that honor neurodivergent experiences is the closest thing to her heart. Followed by video games.
