Joe McGowan
Chief of Staff
As Chief of Staff at Tisch School of the Arts, Joe manages the Office of the Dean and works in partnership with the Dean and leaders across NYU to set strategy, establish metrics, drive strategic decision-making, and ensure results.
Since joining the Tisch School of the Arts in the Department of Drama in 2011, Joe has served in several leadership roles including Associate Director, Special Projects, when he coordinated and advanced the vision and strategic initiatives of six Chairs. Most recently he has served as Senior Administrative Manager, Strategic Initiatives and Communications overseeing administrative operations of Tisch Drama’s Chair’s Office, Communications/IT, and the Office of Career Development and Alumni Relations. In his varied capacities, Joe has led projects that included the overhaul of Tisch Drama’s website and the introduction of Drama Access, an online intranet unifying communications for the large and multifaceted community.
Prior to his time at NYU/Tisch, Joe produced theatre in NYC and international programs at the Council on Foreign Relations. He had a long career at Time Inc., editing, writing, and developing new businesses for Time and Fortune. He holds a BA in History from Hunter College (CUNY), and did graduate work at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.
