Miranda Joan

Miranda Joan is a Brooklyn-based singer, songwriter, and musician. Born in Montréal, Miranda spent her formative years growing up on the north shore of Vancouver, filling diaries with emotions and experiences, creating a safe place to land for both her heart and her imagination that would go on to form the basis of her songwriting. Her influences range from Bill Withers and Stevie Wonder to Anderson Paak., Emily King, and Robyn, drawing on both the classic and the contemporary. Miranda’s personal experiences and the artistic and spiritual energies of the places she has called home flow through intricate songwriting and playful production to form a unique blend of Soul-Pop. Her self-released album ‘Overstimulated’ has garnered over a million streams since its release in November 2023. Following the release, Miranda has pressed and distributed the album on special edition red vinyl, headlined London’s 100 Club, and supported artists such as Adi Oasis and Madison McFerrin. She has performed at PAC’s Icon of Culture festival, SXSW as part of the Submit Hub showcase, and The Great Escape Festival in Brighton, England. Miranda has self-produced and is currently finishing her third album, and maintains her position with The Killers as a backing vocalist.

Miranda was one of the Next Level Songwriters invited by the Willis Wonderland Foundation (an initiative of legendary songwriter Allee Willis) to take part in a songwriting retreat that saw her connecting with an inspiring and wide-reaching community of fellow songwriters and creatives, working and recording in Just For The Record studio in Los Angeles. Establishing herself in the Brooklyn Soul/Jazz community, Miranda is the co-host and co-founder of Brooklyn’s Femme Jam (NYC’s first all-female-led jam session); a community initiative, now eight years running, to create a womxn-led space with an emphasis on female musicians that fosters inclusivity. Beyond their jam sessions, they have been invited to perform at events and festivals in New York, including PAC’s Gala in honor of Diane Von Furstenberg and the opening of Brooklyn’s Timeout Market, and have supported many local non-profits and charity organisations. Alongside this, for the past decade she has been a music mentor with the non-profit SAY: The Stuttering Association for the Young.

Blossoming out of what was originally intended as a one-song collaboration, Miranda collaborated with Ben Carr AKA CARRTOONS on her sophomore album ‘Overstimulated’. “It is an album book-ended by songs of affirmation, of rooting, of returning to and loving oneself, intertwined with the messy, chaotic and interconnected web of my hopes, dreams, imagination, love, and heartache”, Miranda muses. Simultaneously leaning into and letting go of the excessive and overstimulating, the LP sees Miranda shift into a space of contemporary Jazz and Soul, where the instrumental and acoustic meet the electronic. Developed songwriting and storytelling sit alongside production from CARRTOONS and additional offerings from the likes of Sly5thAve, Ben Williams (Pat Metheny), Kristine Kruta (The Eagles), Shaan Ramaprasad, and Danae Greenfield (Clairo).

Since Miranda began rolling out singles from the album, she has commissioned remixes from UK producers Ash Walker and ISHA, and garnered tastemaker support from NPR, CBC (A.Harmony), BBC 1Xtra (CassKidd), BBC 6Music (Nemone, Huey Morgan, Deb Grant and Tom Ravenscroft, Focus Beats), Jazz FM (Tony Minvielle), Soho Radio (BobaFatt, El Train), EARMILK, Wonderland, Consequence of Sound, KCRW (Francesca Harding), Global Soul, Stereofox, Radio X (John Kennedy), KEXP, WYEP, WYCE, KDNK, The Face Radio BK, KALW, Grimy Goods and more. Singles have received Spotify editorial support with playlisting on Fresh Finds and Fresh Finds R&B, and her single “Bada Bing!” has received over 200,000 streams. She has performed on national and international tours, played sold-out and headline shows at well-known New York venues. Miranda Joan is currently providing backing vocals for The Killers - and starred in their recent “Bright Lights” music video - having recently worked with the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Kylie Minogue, Alex Warren, Scarface, Allen Stone, Shawn Mendes, Lorde, and Andy Grammar.

She has performed at Festival International de Jazz de Montréal multiple times, sharing the stage with the National Orchestre de Jazz Montréal, CARRTOONS and Sly5thAve, in a tribute to Dr. Dre. In 2021, she was selected as one of First Up with RBCxMusic Emerging Artists as she released her debut album ‘Windborne’, the follow-up to her 2019 EP “Still”. Both releases received consistent radio airplay in Vancouver and Los Angeles and led to a sync placement on the Canadian TV show The Strays.
