Summer Swim with Professor Vazquez

Dear Incoming PSers,

My name is Prof. Alex Vazquez and I will be teaching “Introduction to Performance Studies” this coming fall.  I realize none of us are ready to get back to work just yet, but I am hosting a “Summer Swim” zoom session on August 12th so we can gather before the school year begins.  I am originally from Miami, Florida and so the water is one of my most formative schools.  Growing up, the beach was a place where so many things got worked out, learned, and debated over.  The seaside and the water’s edge are laboratories for music and dance and the arts (think about all the artistic activity around ports, boardwalks, public pools, the island of Manhattan). It is also a space of leisure. Some of us cannot make it to the actual shoreline this summer, but how might we recreate some of the social life around it?  Topics to be covered during this session: what questions do you have about PS but are too afraid to ask?  How can we begin thinking about making performances together and apart in the time of remote learning? This will be very informal and (hopefully) a little bit fun.  No preparation required. Just show up with your amazing selves. If you happen to have any questions, big or small, bring them along.  This will be like hanging out in the green room before the show begins.

The session will run approximately one hour.  I will be staying on the call after the session should some of you want to linger, ask more questions, etc.  We are so thrilled you are coming to join us!

We will also be sending you all a little activity package in the mail to go along with the Summer Swim! Please complete the registration below so we have your address for where you will be *prior* to August 12th.

**Registration is required to join this session.**
