Three Angles on Artistic Research: A Lecture by Rasmus Ölme

Rasmus Ölme

After a career as a dancer (1995-2002), Rasmus Ölme formed his own group REFUG (2001) and successfully produced and toured several performances internationally before completing his PhD at DOCH/Uniarts in Stockholm, Sweden (2014). During his research, he formed the research group Svärmen (The Swarm). Since 2015, Rasmus has served as the Head of Education in Dance and Choreography at the Danish National School of Performing Arts in Copenhagen, where he also conducts the artistic research project Movement Material.

To propose a perspective on Artistic Research, in this lecture, Rasmus Ölme will attempt to flesh out the development in the Scandinavian context. Ölme will briefly describe the interests in developing Artistic Research in an academic setting and then present a possible definition of the research field of Dance and Choreography and of the relation between those two subjects. Finally, Ölme will describe how this understanding of the entangled relation between dance and choreography has been put to use in the research project Movement Material.

This event is co-sponsored by the Tisch Department of Dance and the Tisch Initiative for Creative Research
