Sammy Roth

Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Sammy Roth is a dance artist, performance studies scholar, and performing arts manager living in Queens, NY.

As as artist, she is a founding member of the NYC based Nadine Bommer Dance Company (NBDC), headed by Israeli choreographer Nadine Bommer. The company's work centers on Bommer's technique, the Nadine Bommer Method, an improvisational technique blending a liquid physicality with imaginative impulses for full artistic expression. In Roth's time with NBDC, she has performed in a world premiere at the Suzanne Dellal Center in Tel Aviv, two US premieres, and toured internationally to cultural festivals in South Korea, Russia, Poland, and Israel. In addition to her performance work with the company, she is currently the Company Manager and a Nadine Bommer Method Instructor in the company's annual training program.

Formerly, Roth has worked with white road Dance Media, Brynne Billingsley & Artists, DanceTheYard, MADArt Creative, and Megan Bascom & Dancers performatively; and Time Lapse Dance, Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, Megan Bascom & Dancers, Elsie Management, and Brynne Billingsley & Artists administratively.

She holds a BFA in Dance from Ohio University, and is currently pursuing her MA in Performance Studies from NYU. Her research combines critical race theory, movement/dance studies, and ordinary affect to understand the kinesthetic identity of whiteness and its failed transformations. In her nonexistent spare time, she runs an Etsy Shop featuring her husband's artwork (Rizza & Co), binge watches tv shows, reads avidly, and plays with her cute cat Gracie.
