Laura Smith

Through writing and choreography, Laura explores the ways in which we organize our bodies in time and space. She’s currently investigating the energetic shifts that occur when domestic spaces are replaced by regulating institutions, such as demolishing San Juan Hill to build Lincoln Center.

Laura produced “Traditions in Transition,” a weekend-long dance festival that challenged the frequent western presentation of nonwestern dance forms as static traditions. She has studied dance with Mark Morris, Jacqueline Buglisi, Pearl Lang, and members of the Limon Dance Company and Paul Taylor Dance Company. She performed throughout North America with Shaan Mutiyaaran Di, the award winning, all female bhangra dance group. To make money, she’s worked as a development and research consultant for nonprofit and international development organizations.
