Lane Lewis

Hailing from the Sierra Nevada foothills, Lane Lewis has a soft spot for mountainous rivers and the smell of pine trees; although, they are certainly happy to have left one of the few conservative hotspots in California. They stumbled upon modern dance and contact improvisation during their undergraduate career and have only sprinted farther down the rabbit hole of performance since. During their graduate career they found Professor Amy Kilgard and under her careful guidance, were finally able to put words, scholars, research, and art to their feelings/existence/desires within academia. Though the university refused to publish it, Lane insisted upon devising a performance-based creative project as their graduate culminating experience (thesis) and would not have had it any other way. Lane is positively itching to continue learning and creating.

Why PS @ NYU?

I wholeheartedly believe that performance and the study of it is raw magic, and cannot imagine doing anything else with my time and energy. I struggle with the idea of all-encompassing answers and Performance Studies offers me the tools to challenge that idea by presenting a potential alternative narrative and (hopefully) making the space for even more.
