Stefa Govaart

Stefa Govaart works at the intersection of dance, performance and text. They have collaborated with choreographers and artists across the theater and visual arts context in Europe (e.g., Eszter Salamon, Christine De Smedt, Claudia Pagès, PRICE). They co-organize the artists' gathering Spring Meeting at Performing Arts Forum (St. Erme, FR), and the seminar series We Have Never Had Sex at the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis. As a founding member of the research group Sex Negativity, they are at work on a series of collaborative projects on Sentence / Essence / Woman / Negation / Sex. They have taught at P.A.R.T.S. (Brussels) and Sandberg Instituut (Amsterdam). Their own work stages the charge of language, taking up receptivity, the labor and trouble of sex and relation, and money. Recent performative readings were presented at rile* (Brussels), Perdu, and de Appel (Amsterdam).

Why PS @ NYU?

Due to its immanent approach that collapses philosophical questions (ontology, everyday life, being) into staged performance, refusing to separate performer from critic.
