Gregory Helmstetter, Women's Film Preservation Fund, Spring 2017, NEH
The Women's Film Preservation Fund (WFPF) of New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT) has preserved over 100 American made films in which a woman has held a significant creative position behind the camera. The films range from work by early pioneers up through contemporary filmmakers, and the subjects of the films address social topics ranging from gender, to race, to environmental issues. I worked to refine my collection assessment and cataloging skills through updating their spreadsheet, through contacting the archives and filmmakers directly, and through research. I also conducted a large amount of copyright research, and wrote workflow documentation.
