The Parliament of Bodies: Oracle Drawings featuring Prophesy Remains by Professors Karen Finley and Adonis Volanakis will premiere at documenta 14 in Athens, Greece on July 14, 2017.
A description of the work:
The historic past as well as the future, but principally our present, appear in the cup of coffee of each participant: How do we read our own prophecies and how are they asked and given? Where is the agency? What are we erasing? Whose funeral is it? What would we breathe life into? What are the grounds for the future? How do we define the divine? What is the political moment, how do we make oracle drawings, when do we read the grounds? What are the parts of a social closure and an individual opening?
Each participant’s coffee cup is videorecorded with a voiceover that registers the individual reading of the future. The piece presents a juxtaposition between seeing within the coffee ground constellations and hearing the voice explanations. The cups are then left on the tables and the piece is screened following the live event.
The event also features work by artists Chrysanne Stathacos, and Sozita Goudouna.
