Yes, Tisch Dance majors can declare a secondary major or minor in an academic department at NYU. Please note, it is not possible to declare a secondary major with another performing art.
Students can discuss their interest in a secondary major or minor with their academic advisor, and can declare the secondary subject of study earliest during summer after their first year at NYU. A declaration of secondary major or minor results in a single degree awarded (BFA in Dance) on your diploma at graduation, with the secondary major or minor appearing on your transcript. Due to the full-time intensive nature of our program, NYU Tisch Dance does not offer dual degrees (receieving more than one bachelor degree certification on your diploma).
Please note, the Tisch Dance BFA is designed to be completed in three years, however this is not the case for other departments at NYU. Students who choose to pursue a minor or secondary major may need to take additional classes in January term/summer, stay on for additional semesters, graduate the following year, and/or enroll in credits above and beyond the 128 overall required for the Dance major. It all depends upon the other area of study, its requirements, and the student’s workload.
