DPI Alum Chang Lee Returns Home To Cover Olympics

Tuesday, Feb 20, 2018

Chang W. Lee (BFA '93, Photography & Imaging) was recently profiled on the NY Times Lens Blog highlighting his work photographing the PyeongChang Olympics.

Lee is a veteran Olympics photojournalist -- this will be the eighth iteration of the games that he has covered. But despite his seasoned professionalism, this trip packed a particular emotional punch as a homecoming long in the making. He wept as the unified Korean team marched on to the stage at the opening ceremony-- a powerful reminder of the Korean partition which divided his family more than 60 years ago.

"We are the same people," Lee told Lens Blog's James Estrin. “Unification will probably not happen anytime soon but we don’t have to be literally unified to be able to communicate with our relatives on the other side and have activities together.”
