On April 20, Super Troopers 2 launched in movie theatres across the United States, more than 17 years after the original cult classic film debuted at Sundance. One of the producers, Richard Perello, who has worked on all of the Broken Lizard troupe's film, teaches Producing Essentials in the Open Arts program.
Both Troopers films were indie projects that got made into major motion picture releases, and the creative journey of the Super Troopers crew is emblematic of the challenges independent filmmakers often face, particularly in terms of funding. Troopers 2 was made possible in part by a $4.4 million crowdfunding campaign, the second largest ever for a film.
