Luke Moses, The Frick Collection, Spring 2015, IMLS

The Frick Collection of artworks collected by Henry Clay Frick is kept in his former residence on 5th avenue. In addition to the permanent collection there are temporary exhibitions and a variety of events held on site, such as symposia, lectures, and a rich tradition of classical concerts. Recordings of these concerts were a primary focus of my work at the Frick Collection. I worked under Associate Archivist Shannon Morelli, my supervisor, and Sally Brazil, Chief, Archives and Records Management at The Frick Collection and Frick Art Reference Library. My workstation was location in the Frick Art Reference Library (FARL). I performed an item level inspection of the concert recording materials, approximately 150 open 1/4" open reel audiotapes, 200 audiocassettes, and 160 CDs. I became familiar with the “long term digital preservation solution” Preservica and worked to develop policies and procedures for ingesting digital video, including proposing a list of format specifications and metadata requirements. I developed a request for proposals (RFP) for the digitization of the concert recording collection, which was then sent out to several vendors at the end of my internship.
