TWN

In this fall semester, I had an internship at Third World Newsreel (TWN). Before it changed its name to TWN in 1973, it was called The Newsreel and was established in 1967 in New York City, United States. TWN is an organization of alternative media arts that promotes the creation, appreciation, and preservation of independent moving image forms by and about people of color. I am working on the Preservation and Digitization Project of 50 Early Works of The Newsreel 1968-1973. I was working under the supervision of JT Takagi and Kelly Haydon. During my time, I have worked with 16mm release prints and some pix-neg of 16 titles of films from that period. I should determine whether the condition is suitable for digitization. Then, I fill out the inspection report through Google Spreadsheet and the Filemaker Pro. Then, I had a chance to assist in the process of ingesting in the Digital Preservation division which led by Draye Wilson. I learned the process of receiving files, using Media Info, applying md5 checksums, and utilizing the FFmpeg command if necessary. Besides, I also had a chance to draft a film restoration funding proposal.
