APP Department Chair Kathy Engel will join the board for Claudia Rankine's "The Racial Imaginary Institute", which will be established with funds Rankine received as part of the MacArthur "Genuis" Grant.
Rankine hopes the institute will be a place where artists will discuss,“why whiteness isn’t written about as whiteness, as race, or the ways in which black life or the lives of people of color are codified inside the media in ways that are negative and confirming of different stereotypes.”
