On May 2nd, 2017, The Department of Art & Public Policy, together with the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute, hosted The Art of Justice 6: Funding Analysis, NYC Cultural Plan and Alternatives in the Age of...!

This was the sixth and final installment of the Art of Justice series, which began in Fall 2015. A major focus of the gatherings has been to discuss issues of funding equity for small arts and community organizations through New York City. Discussions about the developing NYC Cultural Plan

The Art of Justice 6 was an opportunity to engage with institution builders and artists from diverse communities with varying cultural perspectives. Panelists and participants provided a comprehensive tracking of how in the "name of diversity" systemic racial and cultural discrimination continues in the arts. Understanding the ways that structural marginalization continues will engage the audience is articulating and developing methods for dismantling mounting inequity in the arts in the age of diversity.

The Art of Justice 6 addressed the cultural and art issues that challenge community-based organizations and the field in general. In an atmosphere where racial, religious free press and creative expressions are at risk, it is necessary to understand the survival realities that will impact the field. What does the updated funding statistics say? What is the role of the cultural plan process during this period? What is the response of the field?
