Please welcome the newest addition of our esteemed DPI faculty, Andrea Geyer. This Fall 2026 semester she will be assisting Professor DeSiano with CHIPS.
Professor Geyer will give a lecture introducing herself and her artwork to the DPI and Tisch communities on October 1st at 2:30 PM. Please join us for light refreshments at 721 Broadway on the 8th floor in Room 804. RSVP is not required.
Andrea Geyer maintains a dynamic, cross-disciplinary, research-based artistic practice encompassing photography, printmaking, video, performance, sculpture, and installation. Her work engages the material poetics of storytelling as both method and inquiry and examines socially, culturally, and historically significant individuals, events, and sites. The stories Geyer’s work tells circulate around historic occurrences, such as Hannah Arendt’s reporting on the 1961 trial of Adolf Eichmann in Jerusalem, the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq, women’s central role in defining American Modernism and its institutions. They also emerge from an examination of place, such as the American Southwest, its settler-colonialism and the repression of traditional landowners, past and present. Additionally, Geyer reflects on the histories of Germany, the country of her origin, where she contemplates both the emergence of her queer identity and the continued trauma of fascism and its far-reaching aftermath.
