Former DPI Chair, Lorie Novak will be showing a new video in Between the Byines curated by Susan Bright at Boston University Gallery September 2 - December 10 with a reception on October 20.
What does it mean to see a photograph of a photograph published in the media: a symbol of loss and a stand-in for the absent body? Remembering Possibilities is part of Novak’s larger Above The Fold project that examines the front-page photos that appear above the fold in The New York Times. For this video, Novak mined her collection of over 10,000 newspapers looking for photographs of photographs that appeared on the front page. Her superimposed eyes ask you to look with her and through her and think about this different kind of image of loss and trauma.
