Composer and musician Mica Levi joined NYU Tisch Grad Film for a conversation with students about music, screen scoring, and creative collaboration. Co-presented with Steinhardt Screen Scoring and the NYU Production Lab, the workshop explored Levi’s work across performance and cinema, including their longstanding collaboration with director Jonathan Glazer.
The workshop was moderated by Andrew Okpeaha MacLean, Chair of Grad Film, and Mark Suozzo, Music Associate Professor and co-director of Film Scoring in Steinhardt’s Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions.
Levi discussed their scores for Under the Skin, Jackie, Monos, The Zone of Interest, and more. The conversation also included their latest collaboration with Glazer, Joy of Joys, ahead of its world premiere at the 64th New York Film Festival. The documentary follows the recording of HELP(2), a charity album from War Child Records supporting children in conflict zones.
Grad Film and the NYU Production Lab also welcomed Glazer the following day for a companion workshop exploring his filmmaking and collaboration with Levi. Together, the conversations offered students perspectives on the work of both artists and their creative partnership.
