Please bring 10 to 15 examples of your work in print or digital form - photographs, videos, animations, gifs, websites etc.  If you intend on showing video or animations for your review, be mindful of time limitations and come prepared with clips of your work that are no longer than 3 minutes. You may bring up to 3 examples of other types of art work such as paintings, sketches, sculpture, printmaking etc.

In order to accommodate the large number of expected participants and make the most of your review time, students are kindly requested to bring their own (fully charged) laptops or tablets to show their digital works. Some computers will be available the day of.

Please note: Portfolio Review Day is a part of NYU's Open House events and will not be linked to your admissions portfolio should you decide to apply to NYU.

Prospective Tisch students are also required to complete the Common Application. For more information on the complete admissions process to New York University, visit the NYU Undergraduate Admissions Page.

Tips for Portfolio Reviews:

  1. Be on time. If you are late for your individual appointment, the time will not be made up.
  2. Don't feel pressured to present a finished product. Feel free to bring a varied selection of work, including pieces you're still deciding on. We are interested in seeing your personal vision.
  3. Please do not exceed the 15 piece maximum and be organized. There is a strict time limit and additional images will overwhelm and hinder an in-depth discussion of your work. We welcome and encourage you to share a link to your website, Instagram, Tumblr and/or other creative mediums you use if there is additional work you would like to share.
  4. We highly recommend attending the open house events hosted by the Tisch Admissions Office, but students may choose to only participate in the portfolio review.

The outcome of your portfolio review will in no way affect your future admissions process at NYU. This event is offered as an opportunity to receive feedback directly from our department representatives to help strengthen your portfolio presentation for any future purposes. Our formal admissions process is a team effort; no one faculty member has the power to determine a student's admittance.
