Join us for a screening and faculty discussion of the 2016 Golden Globe Award Winner for Best Picture, Moonlight. The film, directed by Barry Jenkins and based on the screenplay by Tarell Alvin McCraney, chronicles the life of a young black man from childhood to adulthood as he struggles to find his place in the world while growing up in a rough neighborhood of Miami. A groundbreaking work, the film is both a vital portrait of contemporary African American life and a deeply personal and poetic meditation on identity, family, friendship, and love.

The screening will conclude with a panel discussion moderated by NYU Gallatin professor, writer, and activist Frank Roberts. The panel will include NYU Tisch professor, artist, and curator Deb Willis; NYU Tisch professor, artist, and writer Malik Gaines; Social and Cultural Analysis professor and director Michael Ralph; and Rahul Hamid, NYU Gallatin professor and editor at Cineaste.

This event is offered as a part of Gallatin’s Black History Month 2017 programming.
