Anyone attending a sports event or an art exhibition knows that viewers lock eyeballs on their 3-inch devices, notwithstanding that directly in front of them teams are actively scoring on the field and actual art objects command whole walls and spaces. How has the app-experience furthered the mission of museums and expanded sports fans' engagement? What gains and losses to the viewer? With boots on the ground and algorithms in their devices, this diverse roundtable, moderated by New Media Chair Alexandra, features Donna Cameron, technology artist and professor, NYU Tisch School of Arts, New York, NY; Chris Weston, U.S. Copyright Office, Washington, DC; and Daniel Davis, Manager Media Group, Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian.
