Winnie bends down to show a participant her project

Winnie Yoe at IMPAKT

ITP student Winnie Yoe was invited to perform her interactive installation, "Smile, Please", at the IMPAKT Festival 2019, Speculative Interfaces in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

"Smile, Please" comments on the societal coercion of emotions and the prevalence of emotion AI. In light of the Facebook and Cambridge Analytical scandal, China's social credit system, and Paul Ekman’s work with US intelligence agencies, "Smile Please" shocks the audience into thinking about the ownership of our emotions. The project was originally developed with fellow classmate Chenshan Gao.

The IMPAKT Festival is an annual five-day multimedia event, this year's theme questions existing notions of the interface and reimagines its future(s).
