Tisch Design Alumna Vita Tzykun Nominated for International Opera Award

Production designer Vita Tzykun (MFA, Design, 05), an alumna of the NYU Tisch Department of Design for Stage and Film, was nominated for an International Opera Award, one of the most prestigious awards in the opera field worldwide.  Tzykun was among six nominees in the design category.

Established in 2012, the International Opera Awards recognize the work of singers, directors and opera companies, as well as the best recordings year.  Judges include leading musicians, critics, and arts administrators from around the world.   This is the second year in a row that Tisch-affiliated designers have been nominated. Last year, Tisch Design faculty member Paul Steinberg and alumnus Erhard Rom were also nominated in the design category.

Over the course of her career, Tzykun has designed sets, costumes, and projections for companies such as Norwegian Opera, LA Opera, Seattle Opera, Dallas Opera, Opera Philadelphia, The Kennedy Center, Wexford Opera Festival (Ireland), Boston Lyric Opera, Atlanta Opera, Kristiansund Opera (Norway), Bard Summerscape, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Utah Opera, among many others.  Her film and television credits include art direction for Lady Gaga’s ABC Thanksgiving Special, production design for several award winning feature films and shorts, and commercials for leading companies such as PBS, DirectTV, Axe, Bulova, Qualcomm, and the U.S. Army.

The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony in London on Sunday, May 15, 2016. See Vita's work here.
