Melanie Miller, NYU Libraries - Native American Film and Video Festival Collection, Spring 2016

My main job this semester was to catalog the incoming items from Clancy (NYU Libraries' off-site storage), box by box, into a Google Sheets document. I was responsible for coming up with the appropriate individual fields in the document and populating them. I cross-referenced this sheet with an existing spreadsheet detailing each item's permissions and entered basic information from that sheet into my own. I hand-labeled each item with its corresponding Unique ID in the sheet and quarantined problem items (like materials with mold). When filmmakers took issue with their items being held by NYU and wanted them back, I pulled these items from the collection and handed them over to my supervisor. If they were already processed and had to be pulled from the off-site storage center, I passed that information on to my supervisor and marked the items in red. Any VHS items housed in clear or soft cases were rehoused into hard, archival grade plastic cases. Any ephemera that informed as to provenance were rehoused with the item.
