Indiecollect is an "accidental collection" that was formed when DuArt, the preferred lab of independent filmmakers, closed the "wet" lab division leaving thousands of 35mm and 16mm negatives in the vaults. Indiecollect took custody of the films and initiated their central mandate, the protection and archiving of (all) independent cinema. My internship included curating the films by women in the collection,including those of African-American women as well as experimental films. I worked to identify and complete bibliographic records for these films, researching who made them, what they are about, and where they were shown.
