Brad Fazzone, NYPL Dance Division, Spring 2013

I interned in the Spring Semester 2013 at the Jerome Robbins Dance Division at the New York Public Library Performing Arts branch at Lincoln Center. I was fortunate to have two MIAP Alumni as my supervisor(s) and mentor(s), Tanisha Jones, Director, Moving Image Archive, Jerome Robbins Dance Division and Crystal Rangel, cataloger in the Preservation Department. Since my internship is structured a little differently because I am part-time in the MIAP Program, my internship will, stretch into July and most likely August of 2013. So to date, I have worked on films from Meredith Monk, who uses the different disciplines of dance, music, and theatre to create one-of -a-kind works.

The two works of hers I am working on include "Ellis Island and "Book of Days." Since these works were accessioned when the library was under a different flow of departmental structure, these two works need to be added to NYPL - Dance Division database( an excel spreadsheet), re-barcoded, updated in MARC, re-housed, leadered, labeled correctly, and produce & print hardcopy forms for the collection binders. This has been a great first internship with the leadership of Tanisha, an MIAP Alumnus, directing and educating me on the flow of how the library function when related to archiving and preservation. There is a lot to learn but this has been a great start on that journey.
